OUR STORY
Our story began long before the company was founded in 2012 by Lerato and Alfred. Lerato was employed as a management consultant at the time but engaged with several community members who had fallen victim to criminal cases being withdrawn due to insufficient evidence. Alfred was employed as a Chief Investigating Officer leading various investigations.
By 2010, both Lerato and Alfred were at the height of their careers but were still deeply concerned with human rights and the slow pace of justice in South Africa.
Believing in the deeper cause of charting the way for socially-conscious business and serving society, Bokang was born in 2012.
Staying true to their founding belief of accelerating justice, they have not stopped at corporate and criminal investigations. They pursue the acceleration of justice in consulting and research and have created a truly African eco-inclusive powerhouse.

OUR ICONS
AND WHAT THEY MEAN TO US
Thaba ya Holla
Moropa
Mohlala wa monwana
Mosadi wa Sechaba
The Holla mountain
Honour to our African traditional heritage, the mountain is located in a remote village west of Polokwane called Ga-Mathabatha. While this mountain is very small, it offers those with pure intentions a sacred connection to the ancestors of the Mpobane clan. For centuries this is where female leaders, di-kgadi, came to ask for rain, for protection and spiritual guidance. During the times of apartheid, we are told that those who were foreign tried to mine on this mountain, however, they laboured in vain. They dug holes every morning and returned daily to see that the mountain had repaired itself back to its original state.
The Drum
As part of the experience, the sound of the drum can be heard on the Hola mountain as a sign of acknowledgement or agreement. This sound vibrates on the ground and echoes softly, calling those who enter the mountain onto their knees. This drum is important for our consulting work as we provide solutions to our clients’ complex challenges. The drum is a sign of working together in collaboration.
The Fingerprint
Each individual is born with uniquely designed fingerprints that are near impossible to alter. We hold the principle that the perpetrator of any physical or digital crime brings something into the crime scene and leaves with a piece of the crime scene. Just like the perpetrator, we too bring something and take something from each experience with our clients, therefore as agents of change it is our fervent aim to accelerate justice. Our fingerprints should spark tribute for years to come.
Mother of the Nation
Where we come from, in Limpopo, women are a fundamental cornerstone of wisdom and spiritual insight. In particular, we hear the story of a formidable woman, Dikgeu, who is the great, great, great grandmother of the current Chief Moleke Mathabatha. Dikgeu was at the forefront of any declared war against the native land. She was the sole protector of the knowledge and indigenous customs. Dikgeu died holding sand in her hands, declaring that even in her death she would continue to fight for the protection of indigenous knowledge, among other things. This is particularly important for Bokang Research Institute as security is not a new concept. By going back to the founders of our society we resuscitate the meaning of indigenous knowledge as a means as well as the end that determines the shape of our future.
WHAT WE DO
BOKANG FORENSICS
The mandate of our forensics team stems from our mission and vision statement – to find client closure. A lot of our clients come to us when they have lost hope or when they have lost control of their current reality. At this point, the only thing they want to do is to move on. To do this our clients require our staff to be fully immersed in finding closure in the shortest time possible. This is done through several tools this includes criminal investigations, forensic investigations, digital forensic analysis, lifestyle audits, pre-employment vetting, undercover shoppers and much more. Ultimately, we are committed to our profession and remain conscious of the high ethical standards expected by our clients.
BOKANG RESEARCH INSTITUTE
Unlocking insights acquired through research in the security industry is the primary purpose of the institute. Security is critically under researched – there is more to security than just guarding. Here we build solutions from an African perspective to ensure eco-inclusive security solutions. We believe that research is another way of accelerating justice!
• Research rooted in indigenous knowledge systems
• Research rooted in safety and security aspects
• Feasibility and needs assessments
• Impact reviews
